What up everyone im back after a couple weeks. Frankly i just forgot but im here now so lets do this. This last week has been my favorite time of the year and that is the baseball playoffs. The Rangers are the first team to advance with a 3 to 1 series win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rangers have a lot of hitting and just enough pitching to possibly get them back in the World Series. The other game in the AL is the Bronx Bombers vs the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees tied the series at 2 last night behind great pitching from A.J. Burnett and even better defense from Curtis Granderson. Game 5 will head back to New York and i see no way that the Tigers will win a clinch game in NYC. Sorry Detroit, at least you got the Lions... On the other side, the NL has two interesting matchups of Arizona Dbacks vs Milwaukee Brewers and the Philadelphia Phillies vs the St Louis Cardinals. Both these series are at 2 to 1 with the higher seeds of the Brewcrew and the Phils holding the advantage. The NL to me has one clear front runner and that is the Philllies. Great pitching and power hitting will probably put them over the top but dont count out the Brewers. The Brewers have 2 great young hitters in Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder who could really change a game. They also have very solid starting pitching at the top with Yovani Gallardo and former Cy Young winner Zach Greinke. I expect to see the Phillies take on the Brewers in the NLCS.
In Football news, the Chargers have come out of the gates to a fast start. Too bad Gates hasnt been on the field. 3 and 1 for the Chargers is the best they have done under the Norv era. In my opinion, its Super Bowl or bust this year and if we dont make it, it possibly could be Norvs last year. I hope we got Jon Gruden on speed dial. It seems like Philip Rivers has gotten back on track after 3 starts of 2 plus picks and he had a nice game connecting with Vincent Jackson on a 55 yd touchdown catch in the first quarter. If Jackson can stay on the field, there is no offense more explosive than the Chargers. The problem is that our big 3 (VJ, Gates, and Floyd) have barely been on the field together just like last year. Its crucial to keep at least two of the three healthy and the Chargers will be a feared team. The defensive side of the ball has been hit with injuries as well. Safety Bob Sanders lasted a whopping 2 games and once again is on the injured reserve. Jammer has also been out the last two weeks but rookie CB Marcus Gilchrist has stepped up nicely in his place and even recorded his first interception of his young career. I expect big things from this player and a trio of Jammer,Cason, and Gilchrist is a headache for many quarterbacks. This Chargers team has played close games in the first quarter of the season but the real test comes over the next four. After heading to Denver and a bye week after that, the Chargers play at the Jets, at the Chiefs, home against defending super bowl champs the Packers, and at home against the pesky Raiders who as of late just wont leave anyone alone. If the Chargers can win four of the five games, that would set them up for another great November and towards the Playoffs.
Final note: The NBA is without a season still and are likely to miss at least the first two weeks of the season if not the whole season. Im liking the possibility of Football and....Hockey leading the way this November. My Anahiem Ducks are ready for another playoff run and with Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan, i could see a Stanley Cup run. So there is this post, on Friday ill be back with the Football Five. Over and out.
